Notes on Wireless LAN and Security
(The following provides important information regarding your rights .)

A wireless LAN uses radio waves, instead of a LAN cable, to permit information exchange between a computer and a wireless access point. Accordingly, LAN connections can be established freely within the range covered by radio waves. However, radio waves transmit through all structures (walls) inside the service range. The following problems may occur if security functions are not set:

- Stolen communication data
A malicious third party may intentionally intercept radio waves and steal IDs, passwords, credit card numbers, e-mail messages and other personal information.

- Hacking
A malicious third party may access a personal or corporate network without permission in attempting to retrieve personal information or confidential information (information leak), disseminate wrong information by pretending to be someone else (spoofing), modify intercepted communication data and send modified data (alteration), or release computer viruses, etc., in order to destroy data and systems (sabotage).

Essentially, wireless LAN cards and wireless access points have built-in security mechanisms designed to deal with these threats. By using each wireless LAN product after setting its security functions, the possibility of these problems occuring will decease. However, the security functions of some wireless LAN devices may not be present for use immediately after purchase. To minimize the possibility of security problems, before using any wireless LAN card or wireless LAN access point the customer must set all security functions of the wireless LAN device according to the manual. Please note that due to the nature of wireless LAN, security functions may still be penetrated by special methods.

If you cannot set the security functions and other items yourself, contact our Support Center for assistance.

PLANEX COMMUNICATIONS shall assume no responsibility for any loss arising from a security problem caused by a failure to implement security measures nor for any problem that is deemed inevitable due to the nature of wireless LAN. PLANEX COMMUNICATIONS recommends that the customer understand the problems that may occur if security functions are not set, and that use of this product after setting its security functions is based on the judgment and responsibility of the customer.
